SEL is not just the next fad, it’s here to stay. But how do you implement it successfully?
Can you imagine an organization with more complexity than a local school? With its history, layers of stakeholders (all with strong opinions and vested interest), a dynamic and changing student culture, teacher personalities, leadership turnover, technology implementation- oh, and real life students who need to be educated.
Anytime a school leader needs to implement an initiative, it can get funky- fast.
We’ve been on the forefront of SEL implementation for the past seven years. From every campus context you can imagine (from large public comprehensive to 1:1 charter to religious private to a school serving the homeless), we’ve been learning from some of the sharpest minds and biggest mistakes.
There is a way to implement SEL effectively and realign your culture.
There are important steps (building blocks), and you can’t skip them.
That’s why we designed our SEL Culture Cohort and Certification Program. We want to share what we’ve learned with as many schools and districts as possible. Helping kids flourish and thrive into adulthood is what we’re all about. But, as you know, it takes a village.
SO WHAT’S THE PLAN?
We’ve developed a twelve step plan for any campus to take so that social-emotional wellness is a natural outcome of the education experience for all students. These steps, or building blocks, will help every stakeholder align to a renewed graduate profile where students don’t just know how to conjugate verbs or solve math problems, but be ready to thrive and flourish in life.
This is a learn-by-doing experiential cohort, with weekly learning assignments including reading, viewing, and reflecting, monthly lab sessions via video call, and each month we’ll provide direction and agendas for meetings you can run at your site. Our team of practitioners will be available for ongoing coaching and feedback.
We’re looking to work with a diverse group of education leaders who are humble, smart, and ready to learn and lead. We will launch our first cohort in August 2019.
WE WOULD NOT BE OFFERING THIS COHORT IF WE WEREN’T ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENT THAT OUR SEL CULTURE ROADMAP COULD HELP YOUR CAMPUS
